Suggested FrameSaverä End Installation Instructions

1. Carefully, remove Brick mold/trim from outside of door frame sides. Do not remove Brick Mold/trim from frame header.
2. Measure approx. 14” from bottom of door frame on each side & add shims as necessary to anchor door frame solidly to wall framing. This keeps the door frame from shifting.
3. Carefully, cut between the door frame and the interior trim with a utility knife, to separate the bottom rotted portion from the door frame.
4. Measure up 4” to 6” from the bottom of the door frame & cut the frame across from outside to inside stopping before cutting the interior trim. Finish the cut if necessary with hand tools. Repeat for other side as needed.
5. Slide the sill with the cutoff frame pieces attached out of the door opening.
6. Remove the rotted frame pieces carefully from the sill. These will serve as a pattern in the next step.
7. Using saws, routers or chisels cut the FrameSaver “End” to match the sill dado on the old frame end. DO NOT ATTACH TO SILL AT THIS TIME.
8. When you are satisfied with the sill match to the “End”, cut the opposite end to a 45 degree angle across the width. Leave the piece as long as possible. Repeat for the opposite side as required.
9. Hold each “End” in front of the corresponding door frame edgewise & mark the location for the matching 45 degree angle cut across the width. Remember to check the fit very carefully before cutting. When you are satisfied the cut location is correct cut the existing door frame to match the “End”. Plane, chisel, sand or otherwise adjust the fit until the pieces match.
10. Add additional shims behind the 45 degree crosscuts where the frame pieces will join.
11. Fasten the fitted FrameSaver “End” to the sill as appropriate.
12. Slide the assembly into place, apply adhesive & attach with fasteners of your choice.
13. Add shims adjacent to the sill as needed to hold in the correct position for door operation. When satisfied nail or screw through the “End” and the shims for final attachment.
14. Reattach the exterior trim.
15. Fill any uneven areas and smooth as required.
16. Sand the FrameSaver “End” thoroughly to assure good primer adhesion. Prime with a good quality primer and topcoat with a compatible paint to match the existing paint.
17. You have now installed the best solution for rotting & insect damaged door frames available. Congratulations!! You will never have to do this job again.
