Endura's Ultimate Hurricane Astragal is designed to meet the needs of those living in climates subject to severe wind conditions. This astragal has been developed and tested to hold up structurally to the high wind loads common in areas subject to hurricanes – particularly coastal Florida, North Carolina, and Texas. This astragal also features the water and air resistance capabilities common in this family of products. The Endura Hurricane Astragal is also capable of withstanding direct hits from missile impact testing.
The Endura astragal can survive a direct hit during Miami/Dade Impact testing (TAS 201). In this picture, a missle in the form of a 2x4x8 Pine projectile was shot out of an air cannon at the rate of 50ft/sec (~34 mi/hr) and struck the Endura Astragal.
The Ultimate Hurricane Astragal has been rated up to DP55, though actual ratings can vary depending upon door panel and unit construction. Trinity Glass, Jeld-wen, and Masonite are some of the customers that have tested with our astragal.
Our Astragal is subjected to the highest test pressures at 150 mi/hr wind zones in Miami/Dade, and these protocols (TAS 201, 202, 203) are the most stringent tests.
Florida and Texas have very specific requirements for their building codes and testing certifications. For more information, please visit the TDI website.
