Greensboro, NC - June 13th, 2008 - The Belchers were caught completely off guard when word came in regarding the devastation that their French door had caused to their five year old house. Early this year, Endura set out to find the perfect example of an inferior door unit exhibiting the tell tale signs of improper installation and poor performance.
Endura found frame rot; improperly installed weather stripping; improper mating of the sill and door bottom; gaps between the astragal and the door; poorly fitting astragal bolts; and improperly installed flashing under the sill.
Air and water infiltration had caused devastating damage, staining the hardwood and causing major damage below and out of sight.
The combination of poor caulking around an inferior sill and improper flashing technique had caused the nearly complete disintegration of a large section of the treated rim joist surrounding the perimeter of the floor. The subfloor was also rotten to a depth inside the house of about one foot and spanning the entire width of the door unit.
“We never realized what an impact the components surrounding a door really have," said the Belchers. "We knew air was coming in, and we've been ignoring the discoloration of our floor. We didn't know how long ago this should have been addressed. This has been a real learning experience. With this new Endura system we know we have a quality product we can count on for a lifetime."
Endura Products, Inc. manufactures entry door component systems that improve door construction, door installation and long-term performance in the home. Endura components improve functionality, maximize the seal between the door and the opening, and reduce air and water infiltration.
